What is FSVP?

What is FSVP?

Officials at FDA instituted the FSVP rule to improve food safety and standardize requirements across all foreign imports.   Foreign importers shipping to the United States will need to submit such documents such as a hazard analysis, a recall plan, and process flow charts prior to entry.  Creating an FSVP plan can be complex. We will briefly explain some aspect of the rule below.

FSVP Defined

First mandated in late May 2017, FSVP requires importers to ensure that all foreign suppliers meet US safety rules.  Representatives at the FDA instituted the law to ensure that all importers of human and animal food meet the same standards regardless of where the goods originate.

What will CBP (Customs and Border Patrol) require upon entry?

Importers must provide their identification number upon entry as well as designate a U.S. FSVP agent as the importer.  You can designate us as your FSVP agent.  We can deal with CBP on your behalf.

Is there an FSVP template?

There is no FSVP template. Each foreign good is different and poses unique risks.  The biological and chemical risks for say romaine lettuce will be different than chocolates.  Our trained FSVP agents are experts in identifying risks for any human or animal food product.  We can review all records to ensure that you are compliant with the FSVP rule.

Do I need a DUNS number?

Foreign importers must have a US based FSVP agent. We can serve as your FSVP agent and provide you with our UFI/DUNS code number.
